The tomb site of Bao Gong, a just and upright judge of the Northern Song dynasty (960-1279) and a personification of impartiality, has been turned into a 30.5-hectare serene park partly skirted by the moat.
This 200,000-square-meter urban park sits on the former site of an ancient battlefield of the Three Kingdoms period (220 – 280). It contains a zoo, a potted plants garden and a peonies garden and a boating-friendly lake. Views vary in different seasons.
The 14,000-square-meter, 99-room complex is the former home of Li Hongzhang, an Anhui native and a high-ranking Qing official who is lashed out for signing humiliating treaties with foreign invaders but who is also recognized for leading the Qing government's efforts to revive a backward kingdom.
The city god temple still welcomes worshippers and the area is also a bustling trinkets market.
