Busan, South Korea

Deally located on the southeastern-most tip of the Korean peninsula, the city is blessed with a natural harbor. Mild climate, indented coastlines, breathtaking sceneries, rolling hills, the world's largest department store which has made it into the Guiness Book of Records – it comes as no surprise that Busan has become a destination that holds a powerful appeal for holidaymakers. It's best visited in spring and autumn. Busan International Film Festival which takes place from September to October, brings together showbiz heavyweights.

Getting around

  • Haeundae

The 2-kilometer-long stretch of white sandy beaches and mineral-rich hot springs is Busan's best summer getaway. Watch ships going by from your hotel room, a café or a restaurant under the moonlit sky.

  • Pomosa

The ancient temple renovated in 1713 bears pronounced hallmarks of South Korean traditional culture, striking visitors as being natural, friendly and heartwarming. Its three-story pagoda and halls integrate seamlessly with lush vegetation, gurgling streamlets and secluded ravines.

  • Haedong Yonggung

The only seafront temple of Buddhist worship in South Korea is a great vantage point for dramatic sea views. It appeals to sightseers, particularly during Buddha’s birthday celebrations when the complex is adorned with paper lanterns.

  • Taejongdae

The park is a poster child of South Korea's rocky coast. A lighthouse stands sentinel over hiking trails, swimming sites and a cruise ship terminal.

  • Jagalchi Market

Busan's biggest seafood market has been around for over 50 years. The annual Jagalchi Cultural Sightseeing Festival that takes place in October offers a great chance for those looking for cultural immersion.

  • Gamcheon Culture Village

This small village perched on a hillside is a riot of color and has many interesting contemporary and modern sites. With the government's gruff art promotion initiative, it has become a major cultrual attraction.
