Washington, the United States

The capital of the United States stands witness to the country's colonial era, independence, civil war and the establishment of the modern democratic system.

It's home to the White House, the Capitol Hill, the Supreme Court, The Pentagon and many other government organs. Standing on the National Mall are a number of museums and memorials like the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and National Air and Space Museum.

  • National Mall

    The park contains numerous must-see attractions. On its central axial line are Lincoln Memorial, Reflection Pool, World War II Memorial and Washington Monument. On its two sides are Roosevelt Monument and Smithsonian museums.

  • The White House

    The complex is the official residence and principal workplace of the President of the United States and has been the residence of every U.S. president since 1800 when John Adams was sworn in as the president. Its location was selected by George Washington, the first president of the United States, but it was John Adams who was the first to become its true master.

  • Capitol Hill

    It's among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. It's been over two centuries that the Senate and the House of Representatives first met here. Today it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people.

  • National Air and Space Museum

    Twenty-four exhibition halls spread out in three blocks house a huge collection of milestone aircraft. The museum is a center for research into the history and science of aviation and spaceflight as well as planetary science and terrestrial geology and geophysics.

  • Smithsonian Museums

    These world-class attractions are depicted in Hollywood blockbuster "Night at the Museum". The sheer number of artifacts on display boggles anyone's mind, including a 3.5 billion-year-old fossil and Apollo lunar landing module. Museum buffs' paradise.

    For the budget-minded, discount stores like those in Hagerstown, Queenstown and Williamsburg are worth exploring, which offer discounts from 25% to 65% on big-name brands everyday.
