Nanchang, China

The capital of southern China's Jiangxi province goes down in history as the city where the Chinese Communist Party established its army in 1927 and began its decades-long struggle for the New China today.

The heroic city of Nanchang has never slowed down its paces of development while China moves forward in top gear. It ranks 15th among the world's top 20 fastest growing cities and is one of the cities with the biggest potentials in China and even the entire world.

Getting around

  • Tengwangge

This 9-story classic Chinese pavilion built by a Tang dynasty prince rose to fame thanks to a very much cited ancient Chinese poem. It affords superb views of the Ganjiang River flowing below and Mount Xishan in the distance.

  • Bada Shanren Memorial Hall

The facility tucked away in the outskirts of Nanchang is dedicated to Zhu Da, also known as Bada Shanren, a Chinese artist of late Ming and early Qing periods. It's laid out to resemble the esoteric, mysteric Chinese Taiji diagram.

  • Shengjin Tower

This 7-story tower of typical southern China style has stood there for 1100 years. Pleasant bell sounds come on the air when gentle breezes are drifting.

  • Poyang Lake

China's largest freshwater lake is the habitat and winter retreat for some endangered aquatic birds like white cranes. For photography aficionados, the moment of truth is when birds dance.
