Regulations on the Items Taken into and out of Sweden |
Pursuant to the laws and regulations of the European Union, Sweden has rigorous customs inspections. Chinese nationals may carry duty-free articles such as clothes, cameras and other items for personal use while traveling in Sweden. Articles (excluding alcohol and tobacco) valued at 4,300 Swedish kroner (about €430) or less carried by those who enter Sweden from countries and areas beyond the euro-zone by taking a flight or ferry, are tax exempt; articles valued at not more than 3,000 Swedish kroner (about €300) carried by foreign nationals who enter Sweden using other modes of transportation are tax exempt.
Upon entry to Sweden, Chinese nationals must pay special attention to the alcohol, tobacco, food, cash, drugs and/or dangerous goods among their carried articles. If the carried alcohol or tobacco is within the limited amount and is intended for personal use, no tariff will be imposed upon entry. Anyone who carries alcohol upon his/her entry should be above the age of 20 and the duty-free limit is 1 liter of spirits over 22% alcohol, 2 liters of wine over 15% but below 22% alcohol, 4 liters of wine below 15% alcohol, or 16 or fewer liters of beer. The duty-free allowance for tobacco is 200 cigarettes, 100 cigars or 250 grams of smoking tobacco. As to food, usually there is no limit on food for personal use purchased from other EU countries; whereas, food brought into Sweden from non-EU countries is strictly controlled and the regulations regarding different foods are varied. Meat and milk products must be accompanied by a health certificate and are subject to examination at the border. In terms of cash carried, a customs declaration is needed when the amount of cash or cash equivalent is more than €10,000. Prescribed drugs used for personal health are allowed to be brought into Sweden. Dangerous goods including switch blade knives, pepper spray, spears or spontoons, rivet gloves, hammers, guns and ammunition can be carried into Sweden if and only if permission from the Swedish police is obtained.
