Regulations on the Items Taken into and out of Pakistan

Entry

Incoming foreigners are allowed to bring:

1. 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 1/2 pounds of tobacco;

2. 4 liters of perfume and toilet water;

3. A reasonable number of gifts and souvenirs whose value does not exceed PKR 2000.

A special tip:

Pakistan is a Muslim country. Visitors are prohibited to take into the country alcohol, pork and pork products and other items that violate Islamic tenets. Without the import license issued by the Department of Plant Protection of Pakistani Ministry of Agriculture and the quarantine certificate issued by the country of origin, visitors are prohibited to carry matches, fruits, plants (including flowers) and related products (fresh or dried).

Located in a tropical region, Pakistan has a lot of infectious diseases. Vaccination against malaria, yellow fever, hepatitis B and epidemic encephalitis B is highly recommended.

 

Exit

Visitors can take 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 1/2 pounds of tobacco, without paying any tax.

A special tip:

It's forbidden to take cultural relics out of the country and over USD 10,000 or the equivalent of other foreign currencies.

 

Visa

China and Pakistan have signed a mutual visa waiver agreement. Chinese nationals who hold diplomatic passport and business affairs passport can stay for 30 days in Pakistan without a visa.

China and Pakistan have also signed a mutual visa fee exemption agreement. Holders of ordinary passports are exempted from visa fee when applying for a visa on the other side. Holders of ordinary passports who apply for a business type visa should provide the invitation letter from the Pakistani organization (company) in question and the invitation letter must be stamped with the seal of an industry and commercial association at the city level of the Pakistan. VFRs (visit friends and relatives) and tourists applying for a visa must provide the letter of economic guarantee from the friend or relative and a valid passport to the Pakistani embassy or consulates.

 

Customs

Pakistan is an Islamic country. Foreigners must respect the Islamic customs. As visitors, ladies should not be clad scantily or wear short skirts; on streets, women should be accompanied by men. As visitors, men should avoid coming into physical contact with women. Don’t stare at masked women. Men should not enter women’s bedroom. A man should not shake hands with a women first, but if a woman extends her hand first, the man can shake hands with her. If you want to have a picture taken with a Pakistani, especially a woman, you must obtain the consent of the other. Don't speak loudly in a mosque. As alchohol is prohibited in Islamic countries, don’t drink alchohol in public places. Pictures and foods related to pig are a taboo. For example, in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, people eat and drink in daytime. When smoking, steer clear of the crowd.

The people of Pakistan are dressed conservatively. Men are usually dressed in traditional robes, but on formal occasions, they wear suits too. Women wear typical Pakistani robes and masks. Women above 12 years old wear headscarves when going out. In public places, local men and women refrain from wearing short sleeved shirts or shorts, but that’s not a requirement for foreigners. The main religious activities are the annual Hajj, saying Muslim prayers five times a day and the annual "Koran" recitation contest. Orthodox Muslims strictly refrain from drinking alcohol. Visitors should not take any alcohol and alcoholic drinks and pork products.
