Regulations on the Items Taken into and out of Philippines

On entry or exit, visitors need to fill in the entry/exit registration card and a customs declaration form. Visitors must declare the total value of their belongings, including gifts they have obtained and merchandise samples. The information contained in the customs declaration must be true. Those who make false declaration or don't declare face penalty for violation of the Customs Law of the Philippines. Items for personal use don't need to be declared. Illegal import of prohibited goods (weapons, explosives, etc.), controlled substances (radio transceiver, CDs, videos, etc.) and controlled items (narcotics, chemicals, prescription medicines without a doctor's prescription, etc.) are in violation of the Philippine Customs Law, regardless of their quantity. Plants, plant products, meat, meat products, birds, snails and other live animals and animal products are prohibited.

Without the approval of the Central Bank of Philippines, it's illegal to take into or out of Philippines banknotes, coins, checks or other bills with a value of above 10,000 pesos withdrawn from the Bank of the Philippines. Such banknotes, coins, checks or other bills could be confiscated and offenders could face civil penalties or criminal prosecution. The passenger who carries the equivalent of foreign currencies of above USD 10,000 must declare in the customs declaration; offenders will face a fine ranging from 50,000 pesos to 200,000 pesos or be sentenced to 2-10 years' imprisonment.


Visa

The visas of Philippines fall into three categories: visa under the Investment Act, visa under the special legal provisions, and investor's visa. These three categories further divide into a number of subcategories. The visas under the Investment Act include short visit visa or tourist visa, work authorization visa. The visas under the special legal provisions include special multiple-entry visa, special Subic work visa and special Clark work visa. The investor's visas include special investment residence visa, tourism projects and tourism investor's resident visa, special Subic investment visa, special Clark investment visa and special residence retirement visa.

Visitors who hold Chinese diplomatic passport and passport for public affairs can stay in Philippines for 30 days without a visa. Holders of ordinary passport with a valid visa of a Schengen country, Australia, the United States, Canada or Japan can stay in the Philippines for 7 days without a visa. Chinese passport holders who sign up for the tourist groups received by the travel agents authorized by the Philippine Department of Tourism can apply for visa on arrival at the port of entry and obtain a temporary visitor's visa of up to 14 days. The Philippines' travel agencies need to submit the related visa on arrival application materials to the Philippines immigration authorities at least 2 days in advance.

Customs

"13" and "Friday" are considered unlucky. The number “13” is not used for hotel rooms, bus seats, building numbers and street numbers. Shoppers don't buy 13 items. Hosts don't invite 13 people to a meal. The locals avoid "13" as much as possible. Muslims do not eat pork nor drink liquor or milk.
