For Entry into China

Visa Application:

• Ⅰ.Who qualifies for diplomatic visas, courtesy visas and public service visas and the methods of issuance are subject to the regulations made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
• Ⅱ.Normal visas fall into the following categories marked with different letters :
• • 1.“C” visas are issued to crewmembers and attendants as well as their accompanying family members on trains, ships and aircraft operated on international routes and truck drivers on international transportation roads.
  • 2.D visas are issued to permanent residents in China.
  • 3.F visas are issued to persons who come to China for exchanges and activities of similar nature.
  • 4.G visas are issued to persons who transit via China.
  • 5.J1 visas are issued to foreign journalists working in permanent news organizations in China; J2 visas are issued to foreign journalists who come to China for short-term coverage.
  • 6.L visas are issued to individual tourists; Group L visas are issued to group tourists.
  • 7.M visas are issued to persons engaged in commercial and trade activities.
  • 8.Q1 visas are issued to Chinese nationals’ family members who come to China for residence and family reunion, to the family members of foreign citizens who have obtained the right to permanent residence in China and to the persons who come to China because of adoptive relationships. Q2 visas are issued to the persons who are the relatives of the Chinese citizens residing in China and who come to China for a short visit to such relatives as well as to the persons who are relatives of the foreign citizens residing in China and who come to China for a short visit to such relatives.
  • 9.R visas are issued to foreign talents needed in China.
  • 10.S1 visas are issued to foreigners’ spouses, parents, children aged under 18 and parents of the spouses who come to China for a long-term stay with the foreigners who reside in China for work and studies. S2 visas are issued to foreigners’ spouses, parents, children aged under 18 and parents of the spouses who come to China for a short-term stay with the foreigners who reside in China for work and studies, and to the persons who come to China for the handling of other personal affairs.
  • 11.X1 visas are issued to the persons who study in China on a long-term basis; X2 visas are issued to persons who stduy in China on a short-term basis.
  • 12.Z visas are issued to the persons who want to work in China on a short-term basis.
• Ⅲ.To apply for a visa, foreigners should fill in a visa application form, submit their own passport or other international travel document, a photo that meets requirements and related materials related to the application.
• • 1.The C visa applicant should submit a letter of guarantee issued by a foreign transport company or an invitation letter issued by the relevant units in China.
  • 2.The D visa applicant should submit the permanent residence permit confirmation form issued to foreigners by the Ministry of Public Security.
  • 3.The F visa applicant should submit the invitation letter issued by the inviter in China.
  • 4.The G visa applicant should submit the ticket on the onward flight/train/ship with confirmed date of travel and seat to the destination country/region.
  • 5.The J1 visa or J2 visa applicant is subjected to examination and approval process in accordance with the relevant regulations on the foreign news agencies and foreign journalists and submit the required materials.
  • 6.The L visa applicant should submit such materials like a travel plan; the applicant in a travel group should also submit a letter of invitation issued by the travel agency.
  • 7.The M visa applicant should submit the invitation letter issued by the commercial trade partner in China.
  • 8.To apply for a Q1 visa that permits entry into China for family reunion, the applicant should submit the invitation letter issued by, and the proof of the family relationship with, the Chinese citizen residing in China or a foreigner who has the right to permanent residence in China; the applicant who comes to China for adoptive relationships should submit the required certificates like the letter of authorization. To apply for a Q2 visa, the applicant should submit the proof like the invitation letter issued by the Chinese citizen residing in China or a foreigner who has the right to permanent residence in China.
  • 9.To apply for an R visa, the applicant should meet the standards established by the Chinese competent authorities on foreign talent and submit the materials specified in the relevant provisions.
  • 10.To apply for an S1 visa or an S2 visa, the applicant should submit the invitation letter or the certificate of family member relationships issued by a foreigner residing in China for work or studies on a long-term basis or the documents that justify the entry into China for the handling of personal affairs.
  • 11.To apply for an X1 visa, the applicant should submit the admission notice issued by the admission organization or the proof issued by the competent authorities; to apply for an X2 visa, the applicant should submit the admission notice issued by the admission organization.
  • 12.To apply for a Z visa, the applicant should submit the proof like work permit as required.
