Nepal is located in earthquake-prone region. Statistics show that an earthquake of magnitude 5-6 happens every 5 to 15 years, and an earthquake of magnitude 7-8 happens every 70 to 100 years.

Nepal is a small country but has a lot of ethnic groups, religions and languages. Statistics suggest that no ethnic group makes up over half of Nepal's population. However, the last dynasty has, for decades, pursued the “One Ethnic Group (Khasas), One Language (Nepali) , One Religion (Hindu)” policy, which has resulted in the imbalanced development of different ethnic groups - the cultures, languages and religions of other ethnic groups have been oppressed to differing degrees. Ethnic wrangles have led to the formation of many ethnic liberation organizations, demands for new federal segmentation, demands for ethnic autonomy, huge differences among various political parties over ethnic policies, among others.

Hindus regard cattle as deity, so cattle cannot be killed or eaten. But some ethnic groups in Nepal eat buffalo, and most beef sold in Nepal's shops come from buffalo. Eating cattle is a very sensitive topic in Nepalese society, so it is recommended not to discuss this issue with the locals.

Dashain is the biggest festival of most Nepalese people. It's celebrated in autumn each year and lasts 15 days. Of the15 days, the 8th, 9th and 10th day are the most important. Throughout the country the goddess mother is worshiped in all her manifestations. During the festival, all government offices, educational institutions and other offices remain closed.
