It is a great pleasure to investigate the different layers of the onion – water Wuhan, history Wuhan, poem Wuhan and bridge Wuhan. Rivers crisscross and lakes are dotted around, taking up one fourth of Wuhan's surface area. This 3500-year-old city is truly a bold X on China's contemporary and modern history map. It is depicted in the poems by some of the 7th-century Tang dynasty's most cited poets and by Mao Tse-tung, the founding father of the today's China. The first imposing bridge spanning the Yangtze River was completed in 1957 and now over ten bridges connect the two banks of the river in the capital of Hubei province in central China.

Getting around

  • Yellow Crane Tower (Huanghelou)

    Part of an eponymous park, the landmark, also a state 5A class tourist destination, has stood there for 1,700 years looming over the eastwards - flowing Yangtze River. It has risen to fame thanks to its constant references in poems.

  • Hankou Jiangtan

    Wide avenues with hectic vehicular traffic and old buildings of different styles skirt this expansive, charming riverfront playground. After nightfall, the light - soaked Yangtze River Bridge and the TV tower in the distance pitch in to add extra luster to the picture.

  • Donghu

    The largest scenic area of the city contains different sections, each having a romantic name like "listening to the sounds of waves", "rubbing the mountains", "flitting swallows" and "playing bamboo flute". Lakefront paths wind their way through bushwhacked hills and the vast expanse of water is peppered with islets.

  • Honglou

    This former site of the military government of the 1911 Revolution that toppled China's last dynastic administration Qing and the last emperor has been turned into a state 4 - A class tourist destination.

  • Cherry blossoms in Wuhan University

    The university is a showcase of the quaint, regal and majestic architecture on campus of the early days. Every spring, the campus is the city's best site for cherry blossoms watch.



  • Hubuxiang

    Your palates will instantly perk up once you set your foot in this century - old, 1500 - meter - long backstreet, a worthy addition to the city's breakfast and snacks scenes. Get ready to chomp and munch on the flavor - packed chunks.
